The term supersition is easily applied to the cause and effect relationship which have long been observed but not explained technically when it comes to vastu shastra. It is a safe rule of conduct in cases where a danger is pointed out to avoid it rather than face it for the reason that you do not know whether the person who pointed out the danger is reliable or not.
This digression has been considered necessary because irreverence for the great seers of our land and want of faith.
Selection of site
In the selection of the site rules have been framed according to the owner’s profession usually in India it is based on the varna. Varna (caste) does not literraly point to the family of the owner. It emphasis more on the job profession like in today’s era it could be an IT industry, manufacturing unit, entertainment industry, retailer, professionals like chartered accountants, doctors, lawyers, etc.
This is again a signal for objection by the modern student of engineering, ‘what has the soil of the site or the frontage direction of a house to do with the qualities or the prosperity of the owner?’
The soil affects the consistution of animals and their qualities, here us humans. It is easily seen by noting the geographical conditions where different animals thrive with different qualities. This mmust apply with greater force to man, the most sensitive of them. So much for infusing regard for the words of our texts on the very first analysis of selecting the site or premises of residence, office, clicnic, restaurant, or any kind.
The compass lines of directions
Compass shows the determinant east, west, north, south, and other direction lines based on its scale. For this purpose a peg of 12 Angulas or 24 Angulas like a gnomon (one angula = 3/4 of an inch) is fixed upright and a circle is described on the ground which twice the length of the peg as the radius. A pin pont is fixed on the top of the peg. The point where the shadow of the pin point of the peg just ends at the circumference of the circule are marked on the circle both in the morning and in the evening. The line joining them will be the true East to West line and a line cutting it perpendicularly will be the North to South line.
The true lines of directions
The lines based on compass will be exactly true only if the sun were to rise in the same point in the east and set in tthe same point in the west everyday throughout the year. But, the sun moves northward (Uttarayana) for six months and southward (Dakshinayana) for six months. A correction has therefore to be applied for the movement of the sun during the time between the two markings on the circumference.
This is done by adding the third mark on the circumference. This correction helps in preventing the displacement between the markings of the morning and evening which is about 8 hours. The morning marking right on the next day of shifting northward or southward therefore is shifted by 1/3rd of the total displacement for one whoel day and that is connected with the point for the evening the same day.
Another correction for the actual declination of the sun from the Zenith at noon is also mentioned in ‘Mayamatam.’ Mayamatam gives the corrections for every ten days. The corrections in Mayamatam are given for each zodiac sign between Aries and Pisces.

I have not been able to find any comprehensive software or reliable compass that can accurately calculate these minute details necessary for the thorough analysis of Vastu Shastra. This gap in technological support highlights the importance of traditional methods, where manual calculations and online or offline Vastu consultations take precedence over the more generic Vastu Shastra principles and guidelines that are often circulated on social media platforms. The nuances of Vastu analysis require a depth of understanding and precision that cannot be simply derived from generalized information found online.
